US regulators are set to scrutinize Shein and Temu due to concerns over safety. These Chinese e-commerce giants are under fire for allegedly selling dangerous baby products. The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) is investigating whether these companies are following safety regulations.

CPSC commissioners Peter Feldman and Douglas Dziak have raised alarms, citing reports of hazardous products available on these sites. They’re especially concerned about the de minimis rule, which allows shipments under $800 to bypass tariffs. Since many of Shein and Temu's items are inexpensive, this rule might be contributing to the problem.

Shein has assured CNN that customer safety is their top priority and they are investing heavily in compliance programs. Temu has stated that they ensure all sellers adhere to legal standards. However, as these companies grow, they face criticism over their low prices, transparency, and environmental impact.

A US congressional report from last year also suggested issues like forced labor, trade loopholes, and intellectual property theft related to Shein and Temu. As the CPSC plans its next steps, expect a thorough examination of these e-commerce giants.
